The Environmental Health Unit within the District Council of Yorke Peninsula is staffed by two Environmental Health Officers (EHO's) who are overseen by the Director Development Services.

An Environmental Health Officer can provide assistance with:

Food Safety

  • If you have a food premises or wish to open one or provide food for sale, it is always best to have an inspection undertaken to ensure compliance with the current Laws.
  • If you have identified a dirty food premises please advise our Environmental Health Officer of your complaint.

Food Complaints

  • Purchased food which is rotten and made you sick or has an object in it should be immediately reported to our Environmental Health Officer.

Food Handler Training

  • It is highly important to prevent food poisoning. Council has a food training package which can be used to train your staff or volunteers. The package is available for a 2 week loan period from the Yorketown & Maitland Offices.

Temporary Catering

  • Having a Food Stall or Trading table and wish to know what to do to ensure you do not break the Law? Download a fact sheet containing the minimum requirements (45 kB).

Unhealthy Conditions

  • Unfit housing, insects and/or rats in dwellings could require an inspection or removal. If you have an ongoing problem or complaint or wish to know the best way to control these nuisances, please go to this site's Public Health section. An Environmental Health Officer can provide further assistance if required.

Immunization

  • A range of free vaccines are available including Hepatitis A and B, and Chicken Pox. The clinics are run from SYP Health Services (08) 8853 3541. Clinics are available each month for babies, children and adults. If you would like to know the clinic dates and vaccines available please contact the SYP Health Service on the above telephone number.
  • If you would like to determine what vaccinations are due for your child/children please access the SA Department of Human Services Immunisation Calculator . This calculator is designed to advise of the Australian Standard Vaccination Schedule for children up to 7 years old.
