Roadside Trees & Vegetation:

Council has a Native Vegetation Management Plan, approved by the Environment Protection Agency, which lays down strict guidelines relating to the management of roadside vegetation. A copy may be obtained from any of the four Council’s offices .
Topics covered in the Plan are –

  • Road reconstruction and maintenance
  • Road safety
  • Control of pests
  • Clearance for fencelines
  • Bushfire hazard reduction
  • Grazing and mowing
  • Leasing of roads
  • Removal of plant material
  • Management of dieback and revegetation
  • Closure of roads
  • Protection of roadside vegetation of particular significance
  • Procedures for any other clearance of roadside vegetation
  • Access to adjoining properties (including clearance for wide farm machinery)
  • Mapping of roadside vegetation requiring additional care in management
  • Rural roadside vegetation planting guide

Requests for roadside tree planting need to be submitted to Council in writing, giving full details of the proposal, for formal approval.

Roadside Trees:

Tree trimming along roadsides is carried out on a regular basis in accordance with strict guidelines to provide a safe corridor for road traffic.

Street Trees:

A regular maintenance programme is in place for trees and shrubs on footpaths and roadsides within townships.

Property owners wishing to plant trees on footpaths or reserves need to seek Council permission in writing, detailing the proposed species and location of trees. The proposal will be assessed and approval given in writing if acceptable.
